Position Title: Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults

Introduction:
As Shiloh Church’s Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults, you will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and leading all Christian programming for our youth (6th through 12th Grade) and young adults (college-aged, pre-marriage/family). You will seek, coordinate and supervise all youth, young adults and volunteers. You will create and maintain a safe, inviting, and dynamic atmosphere for fellowship, learning and spiritual growth. This position requires strong adaptable leadership, administrative, and interpersonal skills for working with youth, young adults and parents. We desire a long-term commitment to these programs and to our surrounding communities; promoting vitality, outreach, and growth.
Core Responsibilities (include, but not limited to):
Program Coordination
- Oversee and develop programs that guide and facilitate the spiritual development and discipleship of our youth and young adults.
- Engage cooperatively with parents and members of Shiloh Church in our vision to be the most faithful community of disciples, proclaiming and living God’s biblical truth to transform lives.
- Attend and participate in bi-weekly staff meetings led by the Shiloh Church Directing Pastor.
- Work productively and collaboratively with other staff team members.
- Support our youths’ and young adults’ participation and integration into the life of our church.
- Develop connections for evangelism and growth at local middle-school, high-school, and college campus programs and ministries (e.g. SWIC, McKendree, SIUE)
- Collaborate on and facilitate relevant goals and plans outlined in the Shiloh Church Strategic Plan.
Volunteer/Team Management
- Recruit and manage volunteers for our youth and young adults programs and events.
- Assist the youth and young adults with raising up their own leadership team through a process of spiritual gifts discovery, leadership development, mentorship, and open discernment.
Event/Planning Coordination
- Plan and lead a variety of programs and events for youth and young adults throughout the year. These may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Weekly Bible studies/prayer groups, regular fellowship/social gatherings, community activities, and large events, such as:
- Mission Trips
- Local Service Projects
- Retreat Events
- Fundraising Events
- Include cross-group activities to facilitate valuable mentoring and leadership development opportunities.
Education
- Develop/Conduct spiritual teaching lessons tailored specifically for junior high, high school, and young adult groups, respectively.
- Encourage deeper biblical understanding and practical application in daily life as a Christian youth and young adult.
- Provide tools for parents/guardians, equipping them to be primary spiritual caregivers for their youth.
Communication
- Hold periodic in-person informational meetings with parents.
- Develop/maintain communications with parents/youth/young adults via email, texts, etc., within the guidelines of the Shiloh Church Safe Sanctuary Policy.
- Develop a coordinated calendar of programs/events, minimizing conflicts with local school programs.
- Attend student events/functions and be a presence within our community as much as possible.
- Provide necessary information to our Director of Ministries and Outreach for inclusion in all media.
- Immediately communicate any pastoral need situations to the Directing Pastor (e.g. illnesses, hospitalizations, family crisis, deaths, or other situations in which youth and/or their parents may require support).
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Directing Pastor, to include, pastoral care/visitation, worship service participation, meeting attendance and other pastoral responsibilities as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- A passion for the gospel of Jesus Christ and its relation to youth and young adults.
- Align with Shiloh Church’s Statement of Faith and Practices
- Strong biblical knowledge; be a growing student of the Bible
- Exemplify and teach Christian values, morals, and beliefs in all aspects of life
- Energized, organized self-starter who can implement his/her creative ideas
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with youth, young adults, parents, staff, and the congregation.
- Completion of a 4-year degree (an emphasis on youth and/or young adult ministry is preferred).
- A minimum of 2 years of youth and/or young adult ministry leadership experience.
- Will consider a 2-yr degree copmbined with a minimum of 5 years relevant leadership experience.
Supervisory Controls:
The Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults works under the direct supervision of the Directing Pastor and will seek to accomplish all duties in a responsible and independent manner, keeping the Directing Pastor informed of sensitive issues and status of programs. The Directing Pastor will review this leader’s work to determine the overall success of the Youth and Young Adults Programs and will provide constructive guidance as required. Shiloh Church’s Personnel Committee (PC) serves as the staff’s support group and will assist in work evaluation and compensation recommendations on an annual review basis. The PC will also hear any work-related grievances, as applicable.
